So So good… The Hood once again.

The Hood Internet - Adornocene (Bon Iver x Miguel)
Since everyone and their mother is listening to Daft Punk’s new album these days, here’s a nice interlude mashup from our friends at The Hood Internet. I had no idea what to expect when I saw the title, but in retrospect it’s not surprising that mashing up two super sexy artists produces a majorly sexy tune.
Here’s a quick analysis of the album structure for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. After discussing it at length with a few friends, I wanted to find the real details as to why the album structure was so great.
Here’s what I’ve found:
- They have paced the album to have a mirror structure tonally. The “1st Half” and “2nd Half” of the album are almost the exact same length, and the entire album uses Touch as a central balance point.
- Given Touch’s melodramatic tone, they’ve placed both of the tracks with the strongest groove (both happen to be Pharrell’s guest tracks) right before and after Touch.
- The two slowest tracks are each 1 place from the beginning and end, to keep the overall balance of the album in equilibrium.
- There’s amazing attention to detail in the key changes from track to track. Most easily noticeable in the Chilly Gonzales piano segue from track 3 to 4.
TLDR; Daft Punk have focused on creating something that is intended to be listened to from front-to-back, without any real focus on getting the “singles” in front of you as early as possible. This is something not seen too often in popular music since most things have moved to digital track sales.
Muchacho’s Tune — Phosphorescent
love this record. if i had the vinyl i would have worn it out by now.
Daft Punk’s new album Random Access Memories is streaming on iTunes.
e-dubble - Big Ships
There will come a moment in which e-dubble writes a song that blows the fuck up. Like, “Thrift Shop” blows up. He’ll be another overnight success that came “out of nowhere”.
Until that time, he’s plugging along releasing a ton of free, awesome music directly to fans. Intelligent lyrics, catchy beats, and super consistant quality in every release. A new song about every three months. You can plug in now or wait for the tidal wave.
Half Moon Run | Judgement
Found these guys via a FB post by Jackson Dyer who I saw busk by Mauerpark yesterday.
Half Moon Run is an excellent band that just wrapped up a tour supporting Mumford & Sons. You can listen to their 2012 album Dark Eyes here. You’ll here more from them here this week.
If you like Foals, check them out, you’ll like them.
American Authors | Best Day Of My Life

Slow beginning but when it kicks in…. nothing but buttery goodness
It’s hard to find a track by Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and the enigmatic Jay Electronica, let alone find one with BOTH of them featured. However this just so happens to be the case on “They Die By Dawn”, a track which starts off slow, with a western-esque introduction, yet turns into a fast, tight hip hop instrumental torn apart by both of these emcees. Lyricism at its most high, brought to you by The Bullitts. Enjoy.
Lorde | Bravado (FFFRRANNNO Remix)
Can’t get Lorde out of my head…
Lorde is my artist of the weekend.
French Horn Rebellion - Girls (ft. JD Samson and Fat Tony)
How fun is this song? Seriously, it’s been on repeat over here non-stop for days. FHR is two brothers from Milwaukee, now making music in Brooklyn. Producer-brother David actually produced similarly-inclined music for MGMT. Super fun stuff.
